Keyboardist David Garfield’s Outside the Box – is a triple threat and wearing the name it bears very well. Garfield’s got straight ahead jazz, beep-bopping-Blues –and a little bit of Country too. That’s right –all on this project! Talk about multi-flavors for all fans! The key to this compilation is a series of soulful songs to roll out in a series. Garfield is ecstatic about the entire album that’s going to keep music lovers tapping their toes and grooving to the beats with the constant flow of new music releases. Garfield has been in the recording industry for more than 45 years creating the various genres of music and he says this project is one of his favorites!
“‘What I’ve been doing is recording for the last 3 years with all my favorite artists who I’ve played with over the years. I wanted to get it all in this project called “Outside the Box,” Garfield told SmoothJazzTimes.com. “It’s more than one CD – it’s actually a five CD series. And “Jazz Outside the Box” is the first release of the 5; so ultimately we’re launching the entire project on ‘Jazz Outside the Box,’ ” he added.
Now there’s more good news – the album dropped just last month.. and already the single “I Lied,” which Garfield wrote with Motown legend Smokey Robinson has penned the number 60 spot on the Music Row singles chart and gained New & Active status on the Billboard Indicator chart!
The project released on Garfield’s Creachy Records joins some 30 albums Garfield has released over the years. He says it was so rewarding to have worked with some of the finest in the music industry including Poncho Sanchez, Miles Davis’ actual band to produce a fabulous tribute tune called East Lou Brew featuring Bennie Maupin, Wallace Roney & Larry Coryell; and Garfield worked with Chuck Loeb just before he passed away last July.
“Chuck recorded his tracks and they are amazing on the CD, “said Garfield. “I remember him calling me saying he enjoyed playing on the project,” he added. “I’m very excited to have worked with such outstanding musicians.”
Hailed from the jazz roots of St. Louis, Garfield touts his younger years for shaping his musical destiny.
“I was very fortunate when I was in high school in St. Louis to have played both in class and around town with so many great musicians – and it’s wonderful to continue the journey,” said Garfield.
